Old Dominion Humane Society (ODHS) has plenty of fun events planned for January. From a healthy stroll or hike with rescue dogs to a yoga session with puppies to painting a pet’s portrait, there’s something for everybody.

Weekends are better with a Saturday Stroll at a relaxed pace with the smaller rescue dogs. Meet at the adoption center at 8:45 a.m., where volunteers will match guests with dogs. A caravan will head to one of the local trails, and dogs hitch a ride in participants’ cars. Crates are available at ODHS. There’s no need to sign up beforehand—just come to ODHS and join the pack.
Meet other dog lovers at the adoption center to take a trek on a local trail on Sundays at 8:45 a.m. Volunteers will match guests with the perfect furry partner for some fresh air and exercise. Guests will take the dogs to trails in their cars, and crates are available at ODHS.
It’ll be a tail-wagging good time during Puppy Yoga at ODHS. Start with a 30-minute cuddle session with the pups at 6:30 p.m. Then, it’s time to stretch during a one-hour beginner yoga class at 7 p.m. All ages are welcome, and the price per participant is $20. Space is limited, so preregister for the event at https://www.olddominionhumanesociety.org/puppy-yoga.
Get ready to unleash the inner artist at ODHS Barks and Brushes, where participants paint portraits of their beloved pets. The pre-sketched canvas and supplies are provided, and no art skills are needed. It’s an afternoon filled with fun and creativity beginning with puppy cuddles from 3-3:30 p.m., followed by painting from 3:30-5:30 p.m. The cost is $55 per person, and advanced registration is required at https://www.olddominionhumanesociety.org/barks-and-brushes-pet-portrait-painting.
