Old Dominion Humane Society (ODHS) is introducing “Saturday Strolls,” an event for the public to take rescue dogs out for a morning walk led by volunteers. The “Saturday Strolls” are open to the public (adults and children) and meet at the ODHS facility door at 3602 Lafayette Boulevard in Fredericksburg every Saturday at 7:45 a.m.
The knowledgeable volunteers, who run the stroll, will greet people at the ODHS door and pair them with rescue dogs. The strolls are in addition to ODHS’s regularly scheduled Sunday hikes.
“With ‘Saturday Strolls,’ more rescue dogs will be able to get out for exercise and human companionship,” said Chrissy Blake, ODHS founder. “We found that the Sunday hikes were so popular that another event—a shorter, slower hike—would provide a chance for more people to participate. It’s a great opportunity to spend time with these adoptable rescues, and people can meet others in the community.”
No experience is necessary for the strolls, and the age to walk dogs is 16 years and up. (Children younger than 16 are welcome to join the walk.) Dogs range from puppies to adults to seniors, and there’s always a perfect match for everybody. (The ODHS volunteers will assist in getting the rescues ready and crated in peoples’ cars to head to a local trail.)
