Old Dominion Humane Society Saturday Strolls and Sunday Hikes With Rescue Dogs Time Changed to 8:45 A.M. For Fall/Winter

Lenora Kruk - Mullanaphy

Old Dominion Humane Society’s (ODHS) Saturday Strolls and Sunday Hikes now start at 8:45 a.m. for the fall/winter seasons. The public is invited to take rescue dogs out for a morning walk on Saturdays and a hike on Sundays led by seasoned volunteers. Strollers and hikers meet at the ODHS facility door at 3602 Lafayette Boulevard in Fredericksburg.

The knowledgeable volunteers will greet people at the ODHS door and pair them with rescue dogs. They lead the groups on a caravan to one of the trails located a short drive away. Strollers and hikers must be able to transport the dogs in their cars, and crates are available at the facility. (Volunteers will assist in getting the rescues ready and crated in peoples’ cars to head to a local trail.)

No experience is necessary for the events, and the age to walk dogs is 16 years and up. (Children younger than 16 are welcome to join the events.) Dogs range from puppies to adults to seniors, and there’s always a perfect match for everybody.

“Both the stroll and hike are great ways to help get the rescue dogs out in the fresh air for some exercise and companionship,” said Chrissy Blake, ODHS founder. “Besides spending time with the dogs, it’s the perfect opportunity to meet other people in the community. The individuals who come out to these events dedicate their time to a great cause, and the rescue dogs are so happy to see them and get a chance for an outing.
