Old Dominion Humane Society’s (ODHS) Saturday Strolls and Sunday Hikes begin at 7:45 a.m. for the spring and summer months. The earlier start during the warmer months is to keep the dogs cooler.

An easy way to get outdoors for exercise and spend time with the rescues, these community events are a bonus for humans and four-legged friends. Saturday Strolls are geared to the smaller dogs, cover a shorter distance on more even terrain and are at a slower pace. No experience is necessary, and the volunteers will lead the way on a local trail.
Sunday Hikes provide a great outlet for the medium and larger dogs that need longer walks to be able to get out of the facility and run off extra energy. The hikes cover between three to five miles on variable terrain at a faster pace.
The strolls and hikes are offered to the public, and there’s no need to preregister. Participants meet at the ODHS doors at 7:45 a.m., where seasoned volunteers will match “dog buddies”, provide crates (if needed) for the short drive to the stroll/hike location and be ready to enjoy the companionship of rescues looking for their forever families. All ages are welcome, and individuals must be 15 years old to walk the dogs (accompanied by an adult guardian).
