Holiday cheer was ringing at the annual WFLS Jingle Mingle’s silent auction, which raised more than $6,000 for Old Dominion Humane Society (ODHS). The silent auction included autographed Taylor Swift albums, weekend getaways to Richmond, Va., and a recliner from Powell’s Furniture. Hundreds of people attended the event, which included dinner, dancing and a visit from ODHS puppies dressed up in holiday outfits, at the Fredericksburg Convention Center on December 12.
WFLS Radio Market Manager Debbie Patten and Promotions Director Sean Quinn incorporated the silent auction into the annual event this year. Patten and Quinn are dog lovers and wanted to raise funds for a local nonprofit. Patten adopted her dog from ODHS, and Quinn has hosted on-air visits from volunteers and rescue dogs to help find homes for the rescues. Promoting the partnership on air, online and through social media, they were able to garner the interest of local businesses to donate items to the silent auction.
“ODHS is grateful to have the support of WFLS, the local businesses and the community in our goal to save, care for and find homes for the rescue dogs,” said Chrissy Hamilton, ODHS founder. “We currently have about 200 dogs in our care, and the money raised from the silent auction is a great help in ensuring they get the vaccinations, medical care and nutritious food they need to keep healthy and comfortable.”
