The weather’s getting colder, but the events for Old Dominion Humane Society (ODHS) rescue dogs are heating up in December. From snuggling up with a dog as a temporary foster to the WFLS Jingle Mingle’s silent auction to benefit ODHS to getting some exercise with humans and four-legged friends, there’s something for everyone. The perfect present is a best friend that will bring happiness to the entire family--check out the adoptable dogs on the ODHS website or come in and meet them during adoption events.
Weekends are better with a Saturday Stroll featuring one of the smaller rescue dogs at a relaxed pace. Meet at the adoption center at 8:45 a.m., where volunteers will match guests with dogs. A caravan will head out to one of the local trails, and dogs hitch a ride in participants’ cars. Crates are available at ODHS. There’s no need to sign up beforehand—just come to ODHS and join the pack.
Meet other dog lovers at the adoption center to take a trek on a local trail on Sundays at 8:45 a.m. Volunteers will match guests with the perfect furry partner for some fresh air and exercise. Guests will take the dogs to trails in their cars, and crates are available at ODHS.
Ring in the holidays with dinner, dancing and a silent auction during the WFLS Jingle Mingle at the Fredericksburg Convention Center from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, December 12. The silent auction will benefit ODHS in its goal to save dogs from neglect, hoarding and mistreatment situations. The proceeds will help with vaccinations, microchipping, medical needs, food and more to care for the rescue dogs. For tickets and details visit: https://jingleminglefxbg.com/.
Spend the holiday with a furry friend by becoming a temporary foster with the Home for the Holidays program. It’s a great way to share the warmth of the season with a rescue dog looking to snuggle with a family, and the rewards will be plenty of wet kisses. This “mini vacation” for the dog starts by filling out a foster application on the ODHS website—or by coming to the facility to choose a dog. Dogs can be picked up at ODHS from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on December 21 and returned at 12 p.m. on January 3. Supplies, including crates, toys, food, blankets and snacks, are provided by ODHS. Learn more about the Home for The Holidays foster program at the link below, then get started by completing a foster application today!
